Hanwha Aerospace announced on September 12th (local time) that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Gilmour Space, a leading Australian space company, to collaborate on space business initiatives.

This agreement aims to expand global space cooperation and explore new business opportunities in the sector. The two companies plan to enhance cooperation by utilizing Australian launch facilities and promoting collaboration in the space industry.

Gilmour Space is focused on developing low-Earth orbit rockets with the goal of becoming the first Australian company to conduct an independent space launch.

The company also owns the Bowen Orbital Spaceport. Under the MOU, Hanwha Aerospace and Gilmour Space will explore the use of local Australian launch facilities, promote space industry exchanges between the two countries, and work together to identify new space business opportunities.

Hanwha Aerospace aims to expand its space industry collaboration with Australia, building on the trust established through previous defense exports such as the K9 self-propelled howitzer and the Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV).

With Australia’s strong demand for satellite imagery, especially for natural disaster responses such as wildfires, and its well-developed ground infrastructure for space launches, the partnership is expected to enable mutually beneficial cooperation between Korea and Australia in the space sector.
